After having augered myself into the pavement in turn 5 at Reno Fernley Racetrack some months ago in October, the gixxer was left slightly bent and battered. Considering the violent nature of highsides and their natural propensity to destroy motorcycles, the gixxer faired pretty damned well in that crash.
Rory was behind me running a GoPro HD when I crashed, and here’s the video he made of it. Thanks Rory!
I broke the bleeder nipple off of the master cylinder. I slightly bent the right stock rearset, popped off the right side tail section, cracked my throttle tube, and smashed up some of the plastics on the right side. Oh, and I put a small hole in the frame from where the bar end stabbed it. That’s IT. I RODE the bike from the crash site to the infield, and would have ridden it all the way in, except that I didn’t want to carry leaking brake fluid across the front straight of the track.
Since October, the bike simply sat in my garage. I’d start it up every 2 weeks or so, and let it warm up, but I had no interest in fixing it since it was dirtybike season anyhow. And I did a lot of dirtybiking. :)
So skip forward to the last 2 or so weeks, and I finally got the ball rolling. It required the help of a few friends and sponsors, but once the ball was rolling, AWESOME things began to take fold.
First of all, Mike from Ace Custom Graphics stepped up to the plate and threw some savage decals on the trailer. All I got right now is this crappy pic I took with my ipod, but even then, it still looks awesome! Not only that, but he made the “number plates” on the gixxer too! *drools*
Next came the bodywork. Factory Bodywork hooked it up! A new set of race plastics for the gixxer instead of replacing the OEM stuff. It’s not like I ride on the street anymore anyways. That shit is dangerrrrous/.
I then took the bike and the plastics down to Moto Gloss. Toe kicked in and helped get the skins mounted while Rob does what he do…painted the shit outta the gixxer. In fact, I didn’t even give him a direction aside from “red and black.” I told him “surprise me, but make it cool! Or I’ll hunt you down and keel you!”
He didn’t dissapoint. In fact, it was so anti-dissapointing that I decided that I would take pics with this model I’d worked with once before…with the gixxer, in fact! Her name is Kristie. She’s a natural!
This shot was from when I worked with her before, while the gixxer was still all wadded up.
And these are from Saturday:
DOUBLE SEXY POWER!!!
Shifty made an appearance to make sure the paint was durable enough for me to use…
It was decided (by Shifty) that it needed a final opaque coat of rubber smoke and dust before I was given the thumbs up. ;)
Kristie and Shifty stuck around for a little bit while I could shoot some more pictures.
Thanks to Matt, we had another toy to play with too…I won’t get into much detail yet, but let’s just say there was a bit of hooliganism…
So no more are the days of the stock black gixxer…soon you’ll be seeing me terrorizing the tracks of the west coast on the new and improved baller edition gsxr 600.
In closing, I really want to thank Factory Bodywork, Ace Custom Graphics, Moto Gloss Paint, and Toe for all their help and effort in making an every day looking machine into the sexy beast it is now. *lubbz*
Eye candy, and I’m out.
Dang, Joe, that thing friggin ROCKS!!! Totally dig how they did your No. 4’s…. and nice shots, as always.
Why is it that Shifty reminds me of The Stig, tho??? ;-)
Shiny side up!
