RVL – Converting to LED

RVL; RV Life. ;)

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. A lot of things have changed, including having bought an RV. :) I’ll be making posts about RV life on here now too. I hope you don’t mind! :D

I long since made the switch in the house from incandescent/florescent to LED lights… Now I’m converting the RV. Just installed solar. 200w of free-energy goodness all day, err’day. The 2000w inverter comes next so that I can power my 110v outlets while not running the generator or being plugged into “shore power.”

This is the solar setup I went with here: Renology 200 watt with controller

My batteries are only 160ah…but they’re brand new. Once they die, I’ll likely go 470ah with two sets of 235ah 6v put in series then parallel for 12v.

My goal is to be as off grid as possible with little to no need to ever have to hookup aside from dumping poo-water into your neighbor’s lawn and topping off fresh water.

So far, the single biggest drawback of rv livin is the lack of internets. I can hotspot my phone when necessary, but I’ve only got 5gb of data for that. Unlimited to my phone, but limited to tethered devices.

There’s a lot of work to do…but I’ve got all the time in the world to do it. I should get my contractors license…Hehe. It seems like you need that… and to be an electrician (ac/dc), and a plumber…AND a mechanic to properly #rvlife. Haha.

Here’s a 1 minute video on how to convert a florescent light fixture into an LED one. I made it after watching about 50 minutes of other peoples’ How to videos. Haha. And here’s the LED lights that I’m using, btw…I’ve been using these in my car for about a year now, and they’re fantastic. I even left them on overnight in my car on accident once, and it didn’t even come close to killing the battery:

Lastly, I put in a lightbar. After having a lightbar for over a year on my Honda Element….and it having SAVED MY ASS on numerous occasions while driving in the middle of the night in the middle of no where… It was a must have for the RV. I’d originally bought a second 22″ bar like on my Element, but Brianna says bigger is better and got me a 52″ beast. :D

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading!
